TEDARESEARCH Boussinesq’s problem of viscoelasticity

چکیده

We consider an isochemical, isentropic, incompressible fluid halfspace and study quasistatic viscoelastic perturbations, induced by two-dimensional (2D) surface loads, of a hydrostatic initial state. In view of the regional or local scale required for deformations of planets to be amenable to the half-space approximation, the model is assumed to be externally gravitating. We derive analytic solutions for the displacement and incremental stress components and study several approximations to the expressions. Particular emphasis is placed on discriminating between the material and local incremental stresses. Based on this distinction, deeper insight is gained into the physical significance of the solution. Terra Nova, 3,401-407

An Enhanced Finite Element method for Two Dimensional Linear Viscoelasticity using Complex Fourier Elements

In this paper, the finite element analysis of two-dimensional linear viscoelastic problems is performed using quadrilateral complex Fourier elements and, the results are compared with those obtained by quadrilateral classic Lagrange elements. Complex Fourier shape functions contain a shape parameter which is a constant unknown parameter adopted to enhance approximation’s accuracy. Since the iso...

About Boussinesq’s turbulent viscosity hypothesis: historical remarks and a direct evaluation of its validity

Boussinesq’s hypothesis is at the heart of eddy viscosity models, which are used in many different fields to model turbulent flows. In its present time formulation, this hypothesis corresponds to an alignment between Reynolds stress and mean strain tensors. We begin with historical remarks on Boussinesq’s results and recall that he introduced a local averaging twenty years before Reynolds, but ...

Effects of Surface Viscoelasticity on Cellular Responses of Endothelial Cells

Background: One area of nanoscience deals with nanoscopic interactions between nanostructured materials and biological systems. To elucidate the effects of the substrate surface morphology and viscoelasticity on cell proliferation, fractal analysis was performed on endothelial cells cultured on nanocomposite samples based on silicone rubber (SR) and various concentrations of organomodified nano...

Dynamic Coupled Thermo-Viscoelasticity of a Spherical Hollow Domain

The generalized coupled thermo-viscoelasticity of hollow sphere subjected to thermal symmetric shock load is presented in this paper. To overcome the infinite speed of thermal wave propagation, the Lord-Shulman theory is considered. Two coupled equations, namely, the radial equation of motion and the energy equation of a hollow sphere are obtained in dimensionless form. Resulting equations are ...

An Exact Solution for Kelvin-Voigt Model Classic Coupled Thermo Viscoelasticity in Spherical Coordinates

In this paper, the classic Kelvin-Voigt model coupled thermo-viscoelasticity model of hollow and solid spheres under radial symmetric loading condition is considered. A full analytical method is used and an exact unique solution of the classic coupled equations is presented. The thermal and mechanical boundary conditions, the body force, and the heat source are considered in the most general fo...
